"BREXIT has given us all a kick up the back side " With colleagues from all parties listening to the leader of Glasgow City Council and others outlining plans for Glasgow and how to respond to BREXIT.
Things I picked up you might find interesting:
Glasgow is the engine room for growth. Glasgow has one third of all FE and HE students in Scotland so many factors allowing for growth. With a bit of extra borrowing there are projects that could create new job opportunities. Also awaiting a decision on housing re grant allocation. Looking to Derek Mackay (Cabinet Secretary for Finance to make these decisions. Glasgow Air Link must happen putting and need to put past differences with Scottish Government aside. Vacant and derelict land if invested in, can deliver a win for Glasgow.
The Buchanan Quarter needs Network rail to make a decision to grow retails which is a big indicator of success. Glasgow is competing with Manchester and Liverpool. This sector brings conferences to Glasgow which helps the whole city.
The City Deal- still in negotiation with Government. Big investment in poorer parts of Glasgow needed.
Planning opportunities may arise Glasgow is seen as one of the easiest cities in U.K. To deal with for bigger investment but smaller development perhaps not so good.
Watch this space for more I weeks to come.
