Today marks Lynch syndrome awareness day. Lynch syndrome is a genetic condition that increases the risk of bowel cancer by up to 80%, and many other cancers. As it’s an inherited condition, there’s a 50:50 chance of passing it on to your children. This means entire generations of families are being devastated by cancer.
An estimated 175,000 people have Lynch syndrome in the UK but a staggering 95% of them don’t know they have the condition because they’re not being tested.
Awareness is critical to identifying people with the condition, so they can take steps to reduce their risk of cancer.
