The Glasgow Labour family is in mourning this morning. In the space of a few days we have lost two big figures and characters in our movement - former Deputy Provost Gerry Leonard and sadly today Councillor Alistair Watson. They were both amazing servants of Glasgow - a city they loved and were proud to call home - and of the Labour Party - a movement they resolutely stood by through good times and bad. Our thoughts and prayers are with all their family, friends and comrades. May they Rest in Peace.
Tonight I hosted a member's debate at Holyrood on supporting rights for those with dementia and their carers. This is a very important issue as the size of the elderly population continues to grow.
I was pleased to support the Royal College of Nursing lobby of Holyrood earlier. Labour would scrap the NHS staff pay cap which is costing nurses and other people delivering amazing and life-saving care. I spoke with one nurse today who told me she is thousands of pounds worse off than 2007. It's a disgrace.
SHARE: On the same day that Sturgeon has doubled down on a second independence referendum these official stats were published on cancer treatment standards. This is the consequence of ignoring the day job!! Shameful.
I was delighted to support 'scrap the cap' at Parliament earlier today. It's time nursed got a well deserved pay rise!
